everyone keeps saying romney should make a major speech or this or that. if i were a democrat, i might have taught --, have thought he should be doing a little more to lay out a bipartisan agenda. one of them has got to be able to discredit the other. i think he has left mitt romney more running room that i would have expected. a few weeks ago i would have thought the numbers would be worse for romney. >> there is a microphone coming over to you. >> i am just curious about what you think the dynamic would be if governor romney is elected between him and paul ryan as the vice president, and then dealing with the house. and not having the filibuster proof the senate. what does that look like? it does not seem like there that many predictions that things are really going to change. i have been speaking to a t. party activists who says -- dimon >> if romney went, i would assume republicans hold the house and do not lose in the house seats. yes, there will be complaining for this or that by some people, but i think he has the ability to pass those issues throug

guest: his analysis of romney's speech is not quite fair. mitt romney was criticizing obama for not being able to come to an agreement with the iraqi government on a continuing u.s. military arrangement. he was not saying let's keep fighting in iraq indefinitely. that being said, it clearly is a strong point for obama that he has managed to pull troops out of iraq, announced the withdrawal timeline for afghanistan. that is broadly supported by americans across the political spectrum, and that is why mitt romney is engaging in a delicate tightrope walk that i referred to. he wants to critique obama for not having a muscular enough view of american power without going into suggesting that he will use this gold-plated military that we are talking about in all sorts of different situations. mitt romney has not talked about afghanistan much because the bottom line is that even within his own party americans are pretty sick of a decade of war and support of of the policies obama has pursued to to me to -- end those conflicts. host: from twitter --

i found it quite shocking that governor romney in a speech took a set of positions about the middle east that will box him in in a way the candidates don't do that. it was a rather tight commitment that mitt romney made. i was troubled by that. i don't think it matters. you want to create a structure where elected officials are not wholly dependent or not largely dependent on a given donor. you want someone to be in a situation where the donor comes back and that really want a certain policy and a certain candidate can say get out of my office. that money is fundamentally important your campaign and then you have a problem. >> you can say this is complicated. under our system of government, the tie to go to congress. the of the one selected by the people and came up with what they thought was a law that would prevent corruption. five justices said no, we have a better way to do that. hen you car in the area of something that is as murky as this, the members of the legislature or the members of the court will have a better sense of what the dangers are of corruption and how to avoid them.

i think he did a good job of diffusing the attacks of romney. it is kind of dangers in a political debate to go on the attack too much. particularly in a presidential debate, where the incumbent kind of has the high ground and the challenger is the person who really has to bring that fight to them. i think it is a difficult situation. >> it was about a week and a half after the financial meltdown in wall street in which stocks plummeted because of what happened because of the leading banks. the first debate is taking place on september 28. we want to show the moderator of the debate on the campus of university of denver this year. he is questioning about what happened on wall street and how he would react. >> let me begin with something that was said in the 1952 presidential campaign. "we must achieved both security and solvency. the foundation of military strength is economic strength." with that in mind, the first lead question. gentleman, at this very moment tonight, and where do you stand on a financial recovery plan? >> thank you very much.
